Real Sociedad beats Mallorca and moves to sixth place in La Liga table

 

A goal in each half was all that Real Sociedad needed to move within two points of UEFA Champions League football after beating Real Mallorca on Wednesday evening in one of the rescheduled La Liga games.

The win will instill confidence in the Sociedad side as they make it their second consecutive win after a difficult period of time that saw them win just one out of seven games. Within that time, the La Liga side was knocked out of the UEFA Europa League after losing 5-3 on aggregate to the German side Leipzig.

Having exited the European competition for the rest of the season Real Sociedad needed to win to ensure that they stay on track for a return to any of the three UEFA club competitions the first in my locker site that had not won in their last two matches having lost both games.

Former Manchester City midfielder and spend international David Silva opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the game, 25-year-old Mikel Merino then made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute of the game.

As Mallorca could not get a response from the 2-0 loss, it becomes the second consecutive game they’ve played without scoring a goal. They also sit in 16th position with 26 points just five away from the last relegation place.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, is fourth with 44 points and is one point from Barcelona in the fourth position on the La Liga table. Up next for real Sociedad is a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu to face reality read the La Liga

Meanwhile,l in the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday evening Atletico Bilbao when knocked out of the competition by Valencia, who secured a 1-0 Victory. Goncalo Guedes’ first-half strike was enough to see them through.
