A resilient Bologna side secured a 2-2 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday night in the Italian Serie A.
The visitors were the first to threaten in the early stages. Nikola Moro’s shot from a distance met a flying save from Yann Sommer, who tipped it onto the post.
The deadlock eventually broke in the 15th minute through Santiago Castro. Moro, again, tried a shot from the edge of the area following a half-clearance from Alessandro Bastoni, and the Argentine helped it over the line.
Inter needed just three minutes to restore parity. Marcus Thuram, who returned to the starting lineup, broke into the area, nudged it to Federico Dimarco, whose shot was saved, and Dumfries poked home the rebound from point-blank range.
Inter then grew into the half and exerted dominance in first-half chances. Simone Inzaghi’s side turned it around through captain Martinez in the first minute of stoppage time. Dimarco again provided a perfect low cross into the area from the left flank, and the skipper slammed into the roof of the net with his first touch.
The opening exchanges of the second period were very end-to-end, as Dumfries and Lautaro had chances to get their second.
However, Bologna struck first in the second half. Orsolini cut it back from the six-yard box for Holm to latch onto, all thanks to a big deflection as his powerful effort nestled in the side netting.
Inter needed a fresh face in the attack, so Inzaghi removed captain Martinez and replaced him with Mehdi Taremi.
In search of his first Serie A goal, Taremi was one touch away from finding that all-important goal but couldn’t miss it.
Thuram, with a brilliant drive into the area from the right flank, provided gan with an enticing cross into the middle, but Taremi just needed a nick, and at full stretch, he couldn’t quite get there.
A winner would have made it a point behind Napoli with a game in hand.
They are three points adrift of the Azzurri facing Atalanta in their next outing.
