Sancho, Tomori, and Smalling miss out on England WC list

On Thursday, England manager Gareth Southgate released a 26-man list for England’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Three Lions are in Group B, where they will face Wales, the United States of America, and Iran.

Southgate handed call-ups to three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders, and eight strikers.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope, and Everton’s Jordan Pickford are the goalkeepers on the plane to Qatar.

There was space for Manchester United Defender Harry Maguire, joined by Manchester City centre-back John Stone. Despite a late injury scare, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be traveling to Qatar, as well as Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Luke Shaw, Conor Coady, and Ben White.

In midfield, Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips is joined by West Ham’s Declan Rice, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, Chelsea’s duo Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount, and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

However, there was no space for Roma’s Tammy Abraham & Chris Smalling and, Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, Brentford’s in-form striker Ivan toney was left out.

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Callum Wilson, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, and James Maddison made it.
