The Erik Ten Hag Era Officially Begins

Although Ten Hag has been working in the Red Devils’ offices for weeks, he has jumped onto the Carrington pitch for the first time to work with the players.

Unfortunately, he could not count on the entire first team squad and only De Gea, Heaton, Phil Jones, Lindelöf, Martial, Rashford, Sancho, Tuanzebe and Van de Beek participated in the session, plus some of the young players such as Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage. .

Ten Hag arrives with clear objectives of returning Manchester United to the top of football and making it a winning team again. They have not won the League since 2013, and their last title was the Europa League, won by José Mourinho in 2016-17. Five years have already passed.

But the biggest challenge for Ten Hag is to give the team a style of play and find a formula that works to bring the players together.

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, the Red Devils have not found a style of play and have tried everything. Seven managers have passed through the Old Trafford bench: David Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, and Ralf Rangnick. However, none of these trainers established themselves as the definitive solution.

Solskjaer is the one who held the position for the longest with approximately three years, and Mourinho is the most successful, having won three titles for the club.

Ten Hag stated that he clearly knows the style he wants to play with.

“Our style is like Pep’s… and he learned it from Cruyff. I like to have the ball and do damage to the opponent. It’s about possession, movement, vertical attacking patterns, pressing, and wingers moving into the middle to leave space for the wings. Everyone attacks, everyone defends,” said the Dutch coach.
