Haris Seferovic scored the fastest goal in the UEFA Nations League history when he put Switzerland 1-0 ahead against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday.
The Portuguese top group two of League A before the game but started the match without star forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored two goals in the campaign already.
Switzerland were also without a win in their first three matches of the group and had not scored a single goal in that time as well, but they quickly caught the Portuguese defense unaware.
They took the lead after just about 40 seconds into the game as Seferovic headed home Silvan Widmer’s cross.
A few minutes later, Switzerland thought they had been awarded a penalty, but a VAR review overturned the decision due to an infringement in the build-up to the penalty.
Portugal also had a goal of their own disallowed for offside, but that was as close as any of the two sides could get to get the game’s second goal.
However, that was how the game ended, with Switzerland getting their first win of the campaign.
The result puts Portugal second after Spain beat the Czech Republic 2-0 in Malaga. Carlos Soler scored in the first half while Pablo Sarabia made it 2-0 in the second half for a comfortable 2-0 win.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland scored a brace in Norway’s 3-2 win over Sweden. The goals are his 20th in 21 international games for Norway, with fourteen more to reach the country’s record.
Meanwhile, England remains winless in the UEFA Nations League campaign after a 0-0 draw with Italy at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
Despite the result, Italy manager Roberto Mancini believes that the three Lions are one of the favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“They are one of the best teams in Europe at this moment. They have many very good players. They are maybe trying some different things before the World Cup. They are one of the candidates to win the World Cup in Qatar.” Mancini said after the 0-0 draw on Saturday.
