Manchester United intensifies chase for Argentinian goalkeeper

Manchester United is set to make a significant change in their goalkeeping department, with plans to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez replacing Andre Onana.

According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, the Red Devils consider Martinez a “huge upgrade” on Onana and are willing to take a hit to make the transfer happen.

The Argentine goalkeeper has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Galatasaray, after he seemingly waved goodbye to Villa fans after their final home game of the season, sparking speculation about his future.

A fee of £35-40 million is expected to be enough to secure a deal, but United must first offload Onana, who has attracted interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is prioritizing the signing of Martinez as part of his team rebuilding process. Meanwhile, analysts do feel United should “jump at the opportunity” to swap Onana for Martinez, and the Red Devils should prepared to take whatever they can get for the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

The transfer would mark a significant change for Manchester United, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season. Amorim is eyeing a major overhaul of the squad, and signing Martinez would be a major coup.

Martinez’s impressive performances for both Aston Villa and Argentina have made him a top target for United.

United are reportedly close to finalizing their second transfer of the window, with Matheus Cunha joining the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Also, Bryan Mbeumo has also made up his mind to leave Brentford and join Manchester United.

The potential transfer comes as Manchester United prepares for a busy summer transfer window, with several key players’ futures uncertain.

Martinez’s decision to stay in Europe and play Champions League football could influence his choice of club, with Aston Villa potentially benefiting from a high transfer fee.
