Villarreal completes signing of Serge Aurier

La Liga side Villarreal have completed the signing of Former Spurs defender Serge Aurier on a one-year deal with a potential of further extension.

The 28-year-old will join Unai Emery, who coached him at French side PSG. Aurier left Tottenham in August after terminating his contract with the club in August.

Aurier who will be unveiled by the Yellow Submarines after the international break mutually terminated his contract with Tottenham who then brought in Emerson Royal from Barcelona in the summer.

The 28-year-old Ivorian right back had 69 appearances for Spurs during his four years stint at the North London club.

He also has 70 international caps for the Yellow Submarines since making his international debut in 2013. He is also expected to feature in the country’s Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers double headers against Malawi.

Villarreal are in 11th position with 11 points amassed from seven games played this season.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Submarines won their last La Liga game against Real Betis 2-0 with summer signing from Bournemouth, Arnaut Danjuma scoring a goal in each half.

He has now scored four goals in six games at the La Liga club including another in the UEFA Champions League since joining on a 5-year contract.

Villarreal manager Unai Emery revealed after the game on Sunday that winning the game was key as they are a direct rival.

“We knew this match was key because it is against a direct rival. Last year, these matches against direct opponents were great experience. Winning today, even though it’s a long season, was important. The team is very focused. Without a striker, we tried to find a structure where we were comfortable.” Emery said.

Villarreal’s next game in the La Liga will be against Osasuna on the 17th of October after the international break.
