Vinicius Junior facing further uncertainty at Real Madrid

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior is facing mounting uncertainty over his future at the Santiago Bernabeu following a series of clashes with coach Xabi Alonso, growing frustration over his role in the squad, and the rapid rise of Kylian Mbappe as the club’s undisputed talisman.

The Brazilian winger caused a major stir during the season’s first Clásico when he reacted angrily to being substituted, shouting repeatedly that he wanted to leave the team before storming down the tunnel.

Tension between Vinicius and Alonso has been bubbling beneath the surface since the Spaniard’s arrival, with the coach’s more structured, disciplined approach clashing with the freedom Vinicius enjoyed under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

In recent games, he has had to make do with substitute appearances, including 33 minutes in Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw at Elche on Sunday in La Liga.

Meanwhile, issues surfaced early in the Club World Cup, when Vinicius reacted poorly to being told he would start on the bench, and continued throughout the league season as he increasingly opposed being rotated or substituted.

Alonso has responded calmly, insisting frustration is “normal” for any player, but the frequency and intensity of Vinicius’ reactions have alarmed the club hierarchy.

The situation escalated after the Clasico confrontation, drawing criticism from former players and pundits.

Even his public apology sparked controversy, as Vinicius failed to mention Alonso directly, an omission widely viewed as intentional.

Despite Alonso’s attempts to defuse the situation, leaks to the media suggest the winger is now seriously considering a move away, with some reports even claiming a decision to sell him has already been made.

Complicating matters further is the shift in Madrid’s attacking hierarchy. Kylian Mbappe has firmly established himself as the club’s new figurehead, with improved form under Alonso and growing influence both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, emerging young talents such as Franco Mastantuono, Endrick, and the potentially returning Nico Paz are increasing competition for places and strengthening Madrid’s willingness to consider a high-profile sale.

Financially, Madrid would demand a substantial fee, rumoured to be around €150 million, which limits its potential destinations in Europe.

As a result, a move to Saudi Arabia, long linked with the player, appears the most realistic option should he exit the club.
