Paris Saint-Germain extended their impressive Champions League form with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, thanks to a sensational first career hat-trick from Vitinha.
The match burst into life early, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia twice going close for PSG before Tottenham struck first in the 35th minute. Richarlison tapped home from close range after Randal Kolo Muani’s flick-on created the chance.
PSG responded brilliantly on the stroke of half-time when Vitinha unleashed a stunning 20-yard strike that crashed in off the underside of the bar to make it 1-1.
Spurs regained the lead five minutes into the second half through Kolo Muani, who punished his parent club by smashing home a rebound after Archie Gray’s effort hit the woodwork.
Undeterred, Vitinha equalised again in spectacular fashion, curling an exquisite left-footed shot from the edge of the box beyond Guglielmo Vicario.
Moments later, in the 59th minute, Fabian Ruiz gave PSG their first lead of the night, calmly slotting home from João Neves’ clever pass.
The hosts appeared to seal the points when Willian Pacho slid in a fourth from a poorly defended corner in the 65th minute.
However, Kolo Muani pulled one back for Tottenham seven minutes later with a fierce drive, setting up a nervy finale.
The drama peaked in the 76th minute when VAR spotted a handball by Cristian Romero, awarding PSG a penalty. Vitinha stepped up confidently to complete his historic hat-trick, sending Vicario the wrong way.
Deep into stoppage time, Lucas Hernandez received a straight red card for an elbow on Xavi Simons, but Tottenham had no time to capitalise.
PSG held firm to claim a memorable 5-3 win, with Vitinha’s masterful performance the undoubted highlight in another Champions League classic.
