Wayne Rooney: I Should Have Scored More

 

Wayne Rooney has stated that despite being England and Manchester United’s record goalscorer, he ought to have scored more.

The player who currently plays for Derby County in the championship stated further that he wasn’t a natural finisher.

Sir Bobby Charlton held the all-time record for Manchester United and the England national team goals, but Wayne Rooney scored 253 goals to break his record at Old Trafford and then he scored 53 times in 120 appearances to break the three lions record.

Rooney made his English Premier League for Merseyside club Everton as a teenager aged just 16 before joining Manchester United in 2004 where he was till 2017.

He won the English Premier League title five times and the Uefa champions league once.

According to Rooney, there were players who had better numbers than he did, but he believes that he had the luxury of time to pile up the goals.

While he is proud to hold the record for both Manchester United and England, he believes he should have done and scored more.

However, he has tipped Tottenham striker and skipper Harry Kane to break his national team goals record.

“I don’t think it will take long for Harry Kane to claim my England record and it would be a proud moment for me, “If I were building a team, he is the one I’d start with,” he added.

He believes that it won’t take long before Harry Kane breaks the national team record, at least not as long as the 50 years that it took him to break Bobby Charlton’s record.
