Germany international Timo Werner has returned to his former side RB Leipzig after three years since his exit.
On Tuesday evening, Leipzig announced Werner as their new player on a four-year deal.
Werner, who left RB Leipzig in 2020 for Premier League side Chelsea in a €43m deal, spent two seasons at Stamford Bridge, scoring 20 goals and nine assists in 80 outings across all competitions.
He also helped Chelsea win the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League and 2021/2022 UEFA Super Cup titles.
Many had thought his Chelsea career would be blossoming with many goals as hopes were high he would transform his Bundesliga red hot form into the English league. However, he struggled to make an impact under Thomas Tuchel during his two-year stint.
With the move completed back to his former side, Leipzig will hope Werner resuscitates that form and finds his scoring boots again.
The Germany international forward will now put on the number 11 jersey as he hopes to add to his tally of goals laid down before he left the club in 2020, scoring 95 goals in 159 appearances asking him Leipzig’s record goalscorer.
In his first interview after being unveiled at the club, Werner revealed how excited he was to rejoin the club.
“I’m so excited to return to this great club again. It has always been in my heart to return someday. And I am glad that day has come as I hope to continue that unfinished business here at Leipzig to win more titles”. He said.
Leipzig has also agreed on a deal with their sister club RB Salzburg for Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian international will remain on loan in Salzburg till the end of the season.
