American Chez Reavie looks set to win his first PGA Tour title for over a decade after moving into a six-shot lead ahead of the final round of the Travelers Championship.
Reavie, 1.29 to win the tournament, is in total control after he birdied seven of his last nine holes to secure a third-round 63.
The 37-year-old is now on 16-under par, with countrymen Keegan Bradley and Zach Sucher his closest rivals in a share of second.
Reavie reached the turn level par but he made his move after holing a 25-footer at the 10th and a 10-footer on the 11th. He finished with back-to-back birdies at TPC River Highlands and the three-time PGA Tour winner admits he thoroughly enjoyed himself on the course.
Reavie told Golf 365: “It was crazy. Zack came out he was making birdies early. I was just trying to hang in there. “It was playing really tough and I was just trying to hit as many greens as I could and give myself some looks.
“I think we got the wind really dialed in on the back nine. I was able to just kind of roll with it. Using the good energy, making a few putts, having the people cheering you on – it’s a lot of fun.”
Jason Day remains in contention, although he will need Reavie to make a number of mistakes on Sunday. Day will start the final round on nine-under in a share of fourth with Roberto Diaz.
The Australian is 12.00 to lift the trophy by the end of the weekend, while Bradley is 13.00 to come from behind and win.
