Jon Rahm Wins In Mexico

World number two, Jon Rahm, finished 17 under at the Vidanta Vallarta on Sunday to win the Mexico Open. Rahm took victory with a one-shot lead ahead of Brandon Wu, Tony Finau, and Kurt Kitayama. Rahm ended the day at two-under 69. The win also marked his seventh PGA title.

The Spaniard began the day with a two-shot lead ahead of Kitayama and Cameron Champ, who finished tied at sixth. By the fifth hole, Rahm’s lead had reduced to 1, as he only made para while his rivals had better luck with birdies.

But Rahm switched things up, proceeding with birdies on the sixth and seventh hole. Still, it did not improve his chances as his Champ and Kitayama made birdies as well.

After the seventh hole, the players started to have issues. Champ started to bogey from the eighth hole, while Kitayama’s problems started on the 10th with a bogey after his ball met water.

Rahm also fumbled on the 10th. He still continued to press and was joined at the lead by Wu, who had made six birdies by the time he reached the 16th. Kitayama later joined Rahm and Wu, and they were later joined by Finua, who made a birdie on the last hole, finishing in the top 10 for the first time this season.

Rahm was able to retake the lead after the 14th, then went on to make par on the remaining four holes. And that was how he won his first title of the season. Speaking after the game, he said, “It was a pretty stressful weekend all the way to the end. I was confident in what I was doing. I had faith in every part of my game. A couple of those great par putts early on helped out a lot, and the one putt from outside five feet that finally went in on 14 was a huge booster.”
