McIlroy Hoping For Better Performance in November Masters

Current world number 1, Rory McIlroy has hinted that he hopes to play better in the Masters.

The Masters, which is one of the major golf tournaments, was initially scheduled to hold in April, finishing on the 12th, Easter Sunday, but due to a revision in the 2020 golf calendar, the Masters would hold instead in November.

For McIlroy, the odds would be in his favour now as he completes his quest for all major golf titles. The Irishman’s best finish in the Masters was at the fourth position in 2015. Since then, he has tried hard to get that one title without progressing far. Now, he seems very optimistic that he would possess the title this year.

Already, McIlroy had only played 2 PGA tour events for the 2020 season before professional golf was suspended as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Games are supposed to resume sometime in June but that is still under speculation. This suspension led to a change of events, resulting in the rescheduling of the Masters from April to November, a move which McIlroy appreciates.

According to him, “November is going to be different…the greens may not be as fast as April.” He was making reference to the change in season with April being the start of Spring while November ushers us into Winter. He further said, “I think it will be a different feel, it’s at the back end of the year.”

McIlroy believes that the original schedule of the Masters as one of the first big events of the year leads to very high expectations and “all this hype”, as he describes it. He also made mention of how winning the Masters would mean a lot to him, recalling how fun it is to always play at the event.

He made all these known in an Instagram Live session with Michelle Wie for Nike Golf.
