Paul Casey wins Porsche European Tour Title

Even though he started the match behind tied leaders Robert MacIntyre and Bernd Ritthammer, Paul Casey came out on top to win the title in a magnificent playoff, shooting 6 under 66, securing his second victory of the year.

His win could be attributed to the fact that he made a total of 6 birdies, flawless all through, which saw him rise above those ahead of him. This title takes his total professional winnings to 20, and he now has 14 European titles, his last before this being in 2014 in the Netherlands.

Speaking of his win, the 42 year old made it clear that he has been chasing it for a while now, stating “it has been a long time coming..”, and further speaking on the importance of the award, he says “I get emotional every victory, but this year has been so fantastic.” And indeed, it has, as the Englishman is also the winner of the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour.

Coming in just behind Casey are Ritthammer and Matthias Schwab, who are both neck and neck at second place. Ritthammer, who was touted to win this because he was everyone’s favorite since the game was taking place in his native town, surprised most people when he came up to share the leaderboard with MacIntyre last weekend.

However, he was not able to sustain victory. As for MacIntyre, it comes as a shock that he is not even in the top three despite holding the top position in the leaderboard for a while.

But he has since acknowledged that he has his sights not just on winning, but on playing a good game. He and Ritthammer both made some costly mistakes that erased any chances of them claiming the title.

Meanwhile, for the victor, Casey is still glad over the fact that he is Europe’s latest winner.

Casey also becomes the 3rd Englishman to win the title, in a consecutive English streak, as the 2017 and 2018 editions were both won by Englishmen. He has his sight set upon much bigger things, and we can only see him conquer more with his determined mindset.
