Scheffler clinches Tour Championship title

Scottie Scheffler capped off an extraordinary 2024 season by winning the Tour Championship, securing his first FedEx Cup title. With a final round of 4-under 67, Scheffler finished at an impressive 30-under par, four shots ahead of Collin Morikawa, who finished in second place. This victory marks his seventh win of the season, making him the first golfer to achieve seven PGA Tour victories in a single season since Tiger Woods in 2007.

Entering the final round at East Lake Golf Club with a five-shot lead, Scheffler faced a moment of uncertainty after two consecutive bogeys. However, he quickly regained control, responding with three straight birdies, including a crucial eagle on the par-five 14th hole. His ability to bounce back under pressure was on full display, as it had been several times this season, and has become something he’s known for.

Scheffler’s remarkable year included victories at prestigious tournaments like The Masters and The Players Championship, as well as an Olympic gold medal. His consistent performance throughout the season has drawn comparisons to Woods’ historic achievements, and these comparisons are not baseless in any way.

After the final round, the American explained how he did not find luck last year and the year before: “I try not to think too much about the past or think too much about the future, but two years ago was pretty tough, having a good lead going into the last round and not playing my best and then losing.

“Then last year, I just had a pretty off week, so it was fairly disappointing. So, coming in with a lead for the third time and finishing it off is definitely pretty sweet. I feel like I’ve lived almost a full lifetime in this one year.”

With this victory, Scheffler’s total earnings for the season, including bonuses, surpassed $62 million. The FedEx Cup adds one more prestigious title to his glowing resume and further positions him as a remarkable figure in the game, setting him on a path to making history for himself.
