Todd Secures Second PGA Tour Win In Mayakoba

Brendon Todd has emerged victorious in the Mayakoba Classic that took place in Mexico, thereby winning his second PGA Tour event for the year back to back, by finishing under 20.

Today’s victory seems to be compensation for the past years as Todd had to wait for five years to win a Tour event in Bermuda earlier this month. His successive win shows just how much he may have improved on himself and if the universe is repaying him for all the lost times. At the moment, he is also FedEx Cup No. 1 despite not winning any FedEx points in 2018. Speaking after the match, Todd acknowledged “just amazing how fast this game can turn”, making a reference to his turn around performance.

Some years ago, Todd suffered bad nerves that he could hardly putt the ball in, making so many bogeys. In fact, he was only able to make 2 cuts in 3 years over 35 five events. His ranking dropped from being rated as world number 40 to 184 currently.

Coming right behind Todd is Carlos Ortiz, who finishes under 19 tied with Vaughn Taylor and Adam Long. The event began with Todd tied with Taylor on Friday. He took advantage of the mistakes made by Taylor and Harris English and raced to the last hole to secure his win. Ortiz won the Premio Trophy for being the Mexican player with the lowest total points in the event.

But within a very short time, he has been able to turn things around. His recent win has also earned him a ticket to the Masters for next year, something he has not experienced in five years. He only has one event, which takes place in Sea Island, to play before this PGA Tour takes a break for the year.
