Leclerc signs extension deal with Ferrari

Charles Leclerc has signed a new contract that will extend his stay with Ferrari. 

The Italian team confirmed the extension on Wednesday, ending speculation about the future of one of Formula 1’s most recognizable driver-team partnerships and making sure the Monegasque remains at the centre of the Scuderia’s long-term plans.

The announcement comes just days before the Monaco Grand Prix, making the timing particularly significant for Leclerc. 

The 28-year-old has represented Ferrari since the start of the 2019 season after progressing through the team’s driver academy, which he joined in 2016. 

Since then, he has become one of the faces of the team, collecting multiple race wins, pole positions, and championship challenges while building a strong connection with Ferrari supporters around the world.

Reacting to the news, Leclerc said he was more than happy to continue as a Ferrari driver “I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari HP. It has always been so much more than just a team to me. It’s the team I’ve loved and dreamt of being part of since I was a child, and after all these years it has become a second family.”

While Ferrari did not reveal the exact duration of the agreement, the team stated that the contract covers the upcoming seasons. 

Previous reports surrounding Leclerc’s last extension suggested a deal stretching toward the end of the decade, and this latest agreement further strengthens the long-term relationship between the two parties.

Financial details were not disclosed, although earlier reports linked Leclerc to one of the most lucrative contracts in Formula 1. 

As with most modern deals, performance-related clauses are expected to form part of the agreement

The update is proof of Ferrari’s belief that Leclerc remains the best driver to lead its championship ambitions. 

Since joining the team, he has regularly delivered results even when Ferrari lacked the fastest car on the grid. 

His qualifying speed has often been among the strongest in Formula 1, while his racecraft and consistency have helped keep Ferrari competitive against rivals from Mercedes, Red Bull, and McLaren.

The extension removes a major question mark and allows Ferrari to focus fully on its championship objectives. 

It also gives Leclerc another shot at pursuing the goal he has spoken about since childhood, which is to become a Formula 1 world champion with Ferrari.
