Alexander Zverev goes past Sinner’s challenge to enter US Open quarters

Germany in-form Alexander Zverev continued his good form as he beat Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the fourth round in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(6) to reach the US Open quarter-finals. Zverev has been in top form and he continued his dominant run in the US Open.

The German is high on confidence after winning Gold at Tokyo Olympics and then won the Cinncinati Masters, which was his fifth ATP 1000 Masters title. Zverev is feeling confident and feels he played only one bad game throughout the whole match against the Italian youngster and was delighted to win in straight sets as he didn’t to sweat hard.

Zverev won 73% of his points on his first serve as he once again ticked the right boxes and continued his good form. The German smashed 37 winners, including 17 aces as he served at his best.

“Players with confidence who have played a lot of matches usually know what to do in these situations,” Zverev said in his on-court interview. “I think I played pretty good tennis in the second set and the first set as well. I feel like I played one bad game in the whole match and it made it very difficult in the third set, so I’m happy to be through in straights.”

On the other hand, Zverev will next face Lloyd Harris of South Africa in the quarterfinals of the US Open. The 24-year old German heaped praise on his upcoming opponent and he had recently beaten Harris in Cincinnati Masters.

“He’s playing incredible and he’s also serving incredible,” Zverev said. “In Cincinnati, I was struggling a lot to return his serve in the first set. It’s going be a tough one, definitely.”

Meanwhile, Zverev could become the second player after Andy Murray to win Olympic Gold and US Open in the same year. Murray had achieved the milestone back in 2012.
