Carlos Alcaraz is a combination of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal – Patrick Mouratoglou

Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mourtoglou reckons Carlos Alcaraz is a combination of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal. The youngster has impressed in his young career and he has shown the skills to go a long way.

The Frenchman feels the teenager’s game is closest to Roger Federer, who recently announced his retirement from the game. Alcaraz has a good serve and return and he ticks the right boxes. Furthermore, the Spaniard is also aggressive in his play and has a never-give-up attitude on the court, like Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz recently won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open after beating Casper Ruud in a four-set contest.

“He combines the qualities of the three greatest players of all time,” Mouratoglou told Tennis Majors of Alcaraz. “I think the one his game is closest to is Federer. Like him, he’s super aggressive and super creative, always trying to do something with the ball. The speed with which he is able to go from the back to the inside of the court, that’s pure Roger.

“At the same time, he has the counter-attacking qualities of Djokovic. And he can play long rallies with a lot of spin, like Nadal. To top it off, he serves very well for his size, and he returns very well.”

Mouratoglou reckons Alcaraz is a complete package as he has incredible touch and power in his game, which is a rare quality in a young player.

“His game combines incredible power and an incredible touch,” Mouratoglou explained. “Normally, we have one or the other. He has both. And I think it’s unheard of at this point. In the same way that I’ve never seen a 19-year-old player so complete.”

Alcaraz has definitely grown in confidence with consistent performances in the recent past and he will look to continue the good show.

The Spaniard will play in the Nitto ATP Finals, which will begin in Turin on November 13.
