Chwaslinka and Andreeva to meet at French Open women’s final

The women’s singles final at the 2026 French Open is set after Maja Chwalinska and Mirra Andreeva won their semifinal matches on Thursday at Roland Garros.

Chwalinska defeated the number. 25 seed Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-4, while Andreeva beat Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3. The winner on Saturday will claim her first Grand Slam title.

Chwalinska’s run has been one of the biggest stories of the tournament. The 24-year-old Pole came through qualifying and is ranked 114 in the world.

By reaching the final, she became only the second qualifier in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam singles final after Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open.

She is also the first qualifier to reach the women’s final at Roland Garros in the Open Era.

The semifinal against Shnaider was decided by fine margins, as Chwalinska edged a tight first-set tiebreak before securing the decisive break in the second set.

She converted her first match point with a forehand winner to complete the victory and book the biggest match of her career.

Andreeva will enter the final with more experience at the latter stages of the tournament.

The 19-year-old had already reached the Roland Garros semifinals twice before this year and has been among the most consistent performers on clay throughout the season.

Against Kostyuk, she broke serve once in each set and controlled many of the longer rallies to secure a straight-sets victory.

The final brings together two players who have taken very different routes through the tournament.

Chwalinska started in qualifying and had never previously gone beyond the third round of a Grand Slam.

Andreeva arrived as one of the seeded players expected to challenge for the title and has largely justified that status.

The match will take place on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Saturday, with Chwalinska looking to complete one of the most unlikely runs seen at Roland Garros and Andreeva aiming to win the first Grand Slam title of her career.
