Former Britain’s No. 1 Greg Rusedski predicts bright future for reigning US Opne winner Emma Raducanu

Former British tennis player Greg Rusedski feels that youngster Emma Raducanu has a bright future ahead of her as he claims that the US Open win has already made her a superstar all over the globe. Rudeski in his recent interview with Sky Sports discussed about the 18-year-old and her recent results.

The former British No. 1 tennis star claimed that Raducanu’s encouraging run at the Wimbledon and triumph in New York has already made her an elite superstar. He went on to compare Raducanu’s success with former World No. 1s Monica Seles, Chris Evert and Jennifer Capriati.

“There’s only three other female players that have got to the fourth round or better in both events in their first two Majors,” Rusedski said.

“Chris Evert, who was world No 1 and multiple Slam winner,” he continued. “Jennifer Capriati, world No 1 and multiple Slam winner, and Monica Seles, so she joins that category of elite superstars.”

Raducanu’s triumph as a qualifier to winning the US Open was nothing short of a fairytale. Hence Rusedski feels that it was an incredible journey for the youngster as he predicts a very bright future for the 18-year-old. He also advises her to stay healthy and get hold of a good support team.

“So her future is going to be exceptional so long as she can stay healthy, put the right team around her,” he added. “I think her future is going to be incredible.”

Rusedski also touched upon Raducanu’s post-US Open phase as he has parted ways with her former coach Andrew Richardson and is looking for someone who comes in with a lot of tour experience and guides her in that way.

Since the US Open, Raducanu has suffered an early exit in the Indian Wells after she lost in the second round against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus. Her poor form continued at the Translynvania Open in Romania where again she lost in the quarterfinals against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk. Had she won the quarterfinals and progressed to the semifinals she would have faced her idol Simona Halep but unfortunately that did not happen.

At first, Raducanu needs a new coach and hopefully with more grind, the 18-year-old will be able to rise up to the people’s expectations.
