It was very important to start off well – Novak Djokovic after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas

Novak Djokovic continued his supremacy against Stefanos Tsitsipas as he defeated the Greek by 6-4, 7-6(4) in his opening match of the ongoing Nitto ATP World Finals in Turin on Monday. The Serbian has now improved his Head-to-Head record against Tsitsipas to 10-2.

Djokovic feels it was important for him to start off well as he knew it could be a tight match against a tough opponent. The veteran was able to break Tsitsipas’ serve in the opening game of the match and took a crucial lead from the get-go.

The Serbian came up with his best against Tsitsipas and wrapped the match in straight sets after one hour and 37 minutes.

“The first game was very important to break his serve,” Djokovic said as quoted by ATP tour. “Starting with a break of serve is obviously a huge boost in confidence and a relief as well because we both knew it would be a tight match.”

“We have played some really close matches in the past few tournaments against each other,” Djokovic said. “It was very important to start off well. I held my serve really well throughout the match. I played a great tie-break, very solid all the way through.”

Djokovic won 80% of his first serve points and won a total of 66 points against Tsitsipas.

Djokovic has won 14 of his last 15 matches and he has been simply at his absolute best. The Serbian is ticking the right boxes and he would want to carry good form in order to clinch his record-leveling sixth Nitto ATP Finals crown.

On the other hand, Djokovic has been granted visa to take part in the 2023 Australian Open as per the latest reports.

Novak Djokovic will next take on Andrey Rublev tomorrow in Red Group.
