Norrie earns biggest victory of his career with Alcaraz defeat

Cameron Norrie pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career by defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Paris Masters with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Norrie entered the match as the underdog, ranked 31st, facing a confident Alcaraz, who had recently won his eighth title of the season in Tokyo and was on a 17-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 level.

Alcaraz took the first set 6-4, taking advantage of a crucial break midway through the set. However, Norrie quickly regrouped in the second set, breaking early to gain a 4-1 lead.

He held serve comfortably and secured the set 6-3. In the final set, Norrie managed to break Alcaraz in the seventh game to lead 4-3.

The world number one fought back with two break points but could not convert either, as Norrie held serve and closed out the match after two hours and 22 minutes.

Throughout the match, Alcaraz struggled with his game, committing 54 unforced errors and showing visible frustration during exchanges with his coach. His timing and footwork faltered, contributing to his loss of control after winning the opening set.

In contrast, Norrie was steadfast and precise with his shots, stepping up his game when it mattered most. His backhand winner late in the third set was a key moment, allowing him to break serve decisively.

This victory marks Norrie’s first win over a world number one player and ends Alcaraz’s impressive run of Masters 1000 victories that began in March.

For Alcaraz, the loss represents his earliest exit from a tournament since the Miami Open in March 2025. The defeat also puts Alcaraz’s year-end ranking at risk should Jannik Sinner win the Paris title.

For Norrie, this win advances him to the last 16 of the Paris Masters, matching his best performance in this tournament from 2021 and marking a return to form after recovering from injury.

His composed serving and ability to defend crucial points helped him stay in control in the decisive moments.
