Novak Djokovic wishes to see Roger Federer back on court again for the sake of tennis

 

Novak Djokovic has spoken most people’s hearts out as they want Roger Federer to be back in action again on court. The Serbian tennis great wishes that Federer at least gets one more match mainly due to his contribution to tennis. The 34-year-old believes that Federer should high his illustrious career on his own terms.

The Serb feels that there should not be any pressure on Federer to give up the sport as he is not at his physical best. He feels that Federer should at least have a proper farewell tournament if the Swiss legend is not able to continue playing for a long time.

Federer recently confirmed to the Tribune de Geneve that he won’t be able to compete at the Australian Open 2022. The Swiss also highlighted how he will be extremely surprised if he manages to make it to the Wimbledon Championships next year.

The 40-year-old underwent third knee surgery after he aggravated the injury while featuring at the Wimbledon Championships. Therefore in a press conference at the ATP Finals, Djokovic paid tribute to Federer and his impact on the sport as he alongwith other players hope to see him return to court as soon as possible.

“Obviously Roger is an icon of our sport and people around the world love him,” Djokovic said. “They love watching him play, love seeing him around. He’s very important for our sport on and off the court. So for the sake of our sport, I sincerely hope that we can see him play at least another time.”

One thing that has got Federer till here was his dedication and drive towards the game. So Djokovic is sure that the 40-year-old will do everything in his power to return to court again. Djokovic feels that one should allow Federer to end his career the way he wishes considering what he has done for the sport over the years.

“I’m sure he doesn’t want to end his career this way,” Djokovic continued. “I think he’s gonna definitely try to give it a last push, a last try. I’m not sure what his injury is, and I know he’s been struggling with a knee for quite a few years. So yeah, let’s see.”
