All three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are tied with the maximum number of Grand Slams. The Serb has caught up with the other two legends after a great 2021 season. He won three Grand Slams and reached the finals of the fourth. With the new season coming up, Djokovic is best suited to win more Grand Slams as both Federer and Nadal are mostly on the sidelines with persistent injury problems.
Therefore in a recent interview, Nadal admitted that the Serb is best placed to end his career with the highest number of Grand Slam ever in the sport. He also pointed out that the uncertainty over his and Federer’s career also gives Djokovic an edge over the other two.
“Djokovic is the best positioned to take this title of being the player with the most Grand Slams,” Nadal was quoted as saying by Eurosport. “One does not have to be fooled, Federer is where he is and I am where I am. Djokovic, instead, is competing and having a great time.”
“Reality is what it is and one does not have to ignore it. What may happen in nine months will be seen, but he is the favourite right now,” he added.
The Spaniard has been out for a long time due to a chronic foot injury. But he is all set to return to an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi. He also underwent minor surgery for a niggling foot injury that has troubled him for some time now. Now his eyes are set as he wants to get the proper conditioning and match practice ahead of the upcoming Australian Open next year.
Federer however is still uncertain about his return as it is clear that the Swiss legend will not feature in the Australian Open and may even miss out on Wimbledon next year.
It will be interesting to see how Nadal prepares for the big summer Down Under. Whereas Djokovic is also looking to get back in the mix after losing the US Open finals and also missed out on the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The Australian Open is his dominant zone and therefore, he will look to add more feathers to his illustrious cap.
