Rafael Nadal is very good on grass, we always forget that he has won Wimbledon twice – Andy Roddick

Former World no.1 Andy Roddick has said Rafael Nadal is very good on grass and we always forget that he has won two titles at Wimbledon. As Nadal is the King of Clay and has won Roland-Garros on 14 occasions, the American feels we don’t give enough credit to the Spaniard on grass courts.

The 36-year-old first won Wimbledon in 2008 when he defeated Roger Federer in the epic five-set clash. Subsequently, he defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets in 2010.

But, it has been more than a decade since he has savored success at SW19. However, Nadal is in prolific form in the recent past and if he can attain full fitness before Wimbledon, it will be foolish to rule him out.

Nadal has recently received treatment on his foot and it remains to be seen whether he will take part in Wimbledon. In fact, not many had given a chance to the veteran Spaniard before the Australian Open and French Open however he went on to win both of these Major events.

On Grass, Nadal has a decent record of 71-20 and he will look to be at his best if he takes part in Wimbledon.

“Is Rafa Nadal, did that procedure help? Is he going to be able to play well on the grass? When he is there, he is very good on grass. We always forget that he has won Wimbledon twice, right? We don’t give him enough credit just because he’s so good on clay,” said Roddick on Tennis Channel.

On the other hand, the Spaniard’s uncle and former coach Toni Nadal has confirmed that Nadal will take part in SW19.

“Yes, Rafael plays in Wimbledon. He is planning to train on the sidelines of the Mallorca Open from Monday (June 13),” said the elder Nadal as quoted by AFP.

“If he has a small chance, he will play at Wimbledon,” he added.

Nadal will be looking to clinch his 23rd Grand slam title at Wimbledon.
