Roger Federer feels ‘Mentally strong’ ahead of Wimbledon start

The former World no.1 Roger Federer feels he is in a better mental space before the start of Wimbledon Championships. Federer hasn’t had a great start to his return to competitive Tennis as he was knocked out in the second round of Qatar Open and then lost in the first round of Geneva Open.

However, the 20-time champion showed shades of his greatness in the first three round matches of French Open but he decided to pull out of the tournament and didn’t play his fourth round match against Matteo Berrettini.

But, Federer’s return to Grass didn’t go according to plan in Halle Open, a tournament which he has won 10 times in his glorious career. He lost to 20-year old Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in the second round despite being a set up in the match. However, Federer believes he is ready for the Wimbledon challenge and he has learned a lot in the last couple of weeks.

“The good thing now, looking back, is I know it will not happen here because I’m ready, I’m excited, I’m pumped up. I know I can do so much better,” Federer said.

“I think I’ve got to take the positives out of these last few weeks, that I’m actually here at Wimbledon right now and I have a chance. I know if I get rolling, I get into the second week – which is the goal here right now, that I get stronger and stronger as every match goes by – I believe it’s very much possible. “I come here feeling mentally strong rather [than] the last set I played in Halle, which was clearly not the standard I like.”

Meanwhile, eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer practised with Andy Murray ahead of his first round match. Federer will aim to make a good start to his campaign as he will face Adrian Mannarino in the first round of Wimbledon. The former World No.1 could potentially face Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final of the upcoming tournament.
