Serena Williams Denies Retirement From Tennis

23-time major winner, Serena Williams, has revealed that, contrary to popular belief, she has not retired from tennis, and there is still a “high chance” of her returning to the court. Williams, in August, had hinted in an article with Vogue that she would be evolving from the sport but failed to use the word ‘retirement,’ a word she said she does not like, or even give an idea as to when her retirement might be in.

This latest information came on Tuesday when Serena was speaking at a conference in San Francisco, USA. In her words: “I am not retired. The chances (of a return) are very high. You can come to my house. I have a court.

“I still haven’t really thought about (retirement), but I did wake up the other day and go on the court and (considered) for the first time in my life that I’m not playing for a competition, and it felt really weird.

“It was like the first day of the rest of my life, and I’m enjoying it, but I’m still trying to find that balance.”

Before now, it was believed that Williams had retired, and she was regarded in the same light as Swiss legend Roger Federer, whose retirement news shook the world.

In recent years, Williams has been struggling on the court. It has been a long while since she made it to the final of any event. Her failure to win a record-equalling 24th grand slam title is one of the reasons why she has not bowed out from the sport. But her recent performance has shown that she is not in the right shape to win a grand slam, which is not surprising.

Whether or not Williams has retired for real, her presence or availability in the sport is now almost non-existent.
