Swiatek denies planning to skip Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting she plans to skip Wimbledon 2025, putting an end to widespread speculation fueled by various media outlets. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Italian Open, the world No. 2 made her intentions clear: “Of course, I am going to play Wimbledon” and urged fans and media not to believe the false reports circulating recently.

The rumors emerged shortly after Swiatek suffered a heavy 6-1, 6-1 loss to Coco Gauff in the Madrid Open semifinals, with talks seeping out that she might take a mid-season break to prepare for the US Open instead.

Swiatek responded directly to these claims, saying, “During the past few days, I saw a million comments that were not true” and criticized the media for spreading misleading stories, especially in Polish outlets. “I think, I don’t know, you guys like to make some articles that will attract people. I get it. It’s part of the job,” she added.

Swiatek emphasized her commitment to improving her game on grass courts, a surface she has found challenging compared to clay and hard courts. “I really want to learn how to play on grass better. Every year is another opportunity. I will play Wimbledon, for sure, unless I get injured,” she said.

She continues to maintain a consistent form, reaching at least the quarterfinals in every tournament she has played this season. She acknowledged being hard on herself but remains determined to win more tournaments. “I just need to push a little bit more and not let my thoughts go around like this,” she said.

Till date, her best Wimbledon performance came in 2023 when she reached the quarterfinals. At the moment, her focus is currently on defending her title at the Italian Open and preparing for the upcoming French, as she hopes to clinch the title this year.
