The World no.1 Daniil Medvedev revealed that he grew in confidence after beating Rafael Nadal once and Novak Djokovic a few times. The Russian has played six matches against the Spaniard, in which he has won a solitary contest and lost five matches. Nadal had beaten Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open 2022 in a thrilling five-set contest.
However, Medvedev has enjoyed more success against Novak Djokovic as he has won four matches versus the Serbian in their 10 meetings. Medvedev had beaten Djokovic in straight sets in the final of the US Open 2021 to win his first Major title and had denied the Serbian his chance to claim the Calendar Grand Slam.
On the other hand, Medvedev hasn’t yet beaten Roger Federer in the three matches he has played against the Swiss Maestro.
Ahead of his opening round match in Montreal Open, “It’s sometimes different sensations when you beat somebody from the big three,” said Medvedev.
“Well, actually ‘big three’, I (have) never beaten Roger. For me, when I beat Rafa one time, and I beat Novak a few times, it’s a special sensation, that brings you a lot of confidence. Yeah, it’s just a good feeling.”
Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev recently claimed his first title of the season after beating Britain’s Cam Norrie in straight sets in Los Cabos. Medvedev currently has a 31-10 record in the ongoing season.
Medvedev will begin his Canadian Open campaign on Wednesday. The Russian will look to be at his best before the US Open, in which he would look to defend his title. The US Open will begin on August 29 in New York.
