Williams sisters get Wimbledon wild card

Serena Williams and Venus Williams will play together at Wimbledon 2026 after receiving a wild card for the women’s doubles tournament.

The All England Club confirmed the decision on Tuesday, paving the way for the sisters to reunite on Wimbledon’s grass courts for the first time since 2018.

The doubles competition begins on June 29, with the pair set to make another appearance as one of the most successful partnerships in tennis history.

The tournament marks Serena’s first Wimbledon appearance in four years and Venus’ first in three. Neither player is currently entered into the singles draw, as they are solely focused on doubles for now.

The Williams sisters built one of the most decorated doubles careers in the sport, winning 14 Grand Slam women’s doubles titles together and completing a career Golden Slam.

Their success at Wimbledon includes six doubles titles, with their most recent triumph at the All England Club being back in 2016.

Their return is coming after Serena’s recent comeback to professional tennis at Queen’s Club, where she won her opening doubles match alongside Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko.

Venus has also continued to make occasional appearances on tour despite spending long periods away from competition.

The wild card entry means the sisters do not need to qualify through the rankings system.

Instead, Wimbledon has awarded them a place directly in the draw, which is in recognition of both their achievements and their significance to the tournament.

Few doubles teams have matched what Serena and Venus accomplished during their careers. Across more than two decades, they had one of the most powerful partnerships in the sport, with achievements and records to show for it.

Even after years away from regular competition, their reunion is expected to be one of the biggest talking points heading into the tournament.

Whether they can make a deep run remains to be seen, but their presence alone makes this year’s edition of Wimbledon something to look forward to.
