Wimbledon 2022: I’d love to face him in the finals and get revenge for Paris – Novak Djokovic on Rafael Nadal

The number one seed at Wimbledon Novak Djokovic is keen to get his revenge against Rafael Nadal in the final of the Wimbledon 2022. Djokovic and Nadal could potentially meet in the final of the prestigious tournament and the Serbian said he would love to face his old rival.

Meanwhile, Nadal had beaten Djokovic in the quarterfinal clash of Roland-Garros in an epic four-set encounter. Subsequently, the Spaniard had gone on to win his 14th French Open title after beating Casper Ruud in the final in Paris.

Thus, Nadal is now two Majors ahead of Novak Djokovic and the Serbian will want to defend his title at SW19. Djokovic has won the last three Wimbledon championships and he will look to continue his supremacy on grass.

Meanwhile, Djokovic and Nadal have faced each other on 59 occasions in which the former has won 30 times whereas the latter has won 29 games.

“If we get to face each other, that means that we’re both in the finals, which I think we both want,” Novak Djokovic said, adding, “I’d love to face him in the finals and get revenge for Paris.”

In fact, Nadal hasn’t taken part in Wimbledon in the last three years but Djokovic considers him as one of the favorites.

“Of course, you have to put him as one of the favorites even though he hasn’t played in Wimbledon for I think the last three years. But still, you know, he is Nadal, he has achieved what he has achieved throughout his career. And also this year, which gives you a lot of confidence, you know, in his case,” Djokovic said.

Djokovic lauded Nadal for his fighting spirit and hailed him as an amazing champion. Nadal had made a return to the tour in 2022 after surgery and he has ticked all the right boxes.

“He had surgery, in the second part of last year and coming back after that surgery and winning a Grand Slam right away is something that is really impressive of course. Making history as well with Grand Slam wins – in Roland Garros – a tournament where historically he has won the most titles, so hats down,” Djokovic said.

Novak Djokovic will begin his Wimbledon campaign against South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo on Monday.
