The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster deal that will see veteran forward Paul George and four draft picks head to Boston.
Under the agreement, Philadelphia will receive Brown, while the Celtics acquire George, first-round picks in 2028 and 2031, along with second-round selections in 2028 and 2030. The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania and later confirmed by The Athletic and The Boston Globe.
The move ends Brown’s 10-season spell in Boston, where he developed into one of the franchise’s cornerstone players. During his time with the Celtics, Brown earned five All-Star selections and helped the team capture the 2024 NBA championship, claiming the NBA Finals MVP award for his performances.
Brown also leaves Boston as the player with the most combined regular-season and playoff victories in the league since entering the NBA a decade ago. The Celtics recorded 523 wins with Brown in the lineup over that period, six more than Denver achieved with Nikola Jokic.
The trade also brings an end to Boston’s highly successful partnership between Brown and Jayson Tatum. The duo formed one of the NBA’s most effective combinations, leading the Celtics to sustained success over several seasons.
With Tatum sidelined for most of the previous campaign while recovering from an Achilles injury suffered during the 2025 playoffs, Brown carried a greater offensive responsibility. He responded by posting career-best averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.
Despite his performances, speculation over Brown’s future had grown after reports emerged that Boston had included him in trade discussions with Milwaukee when Giannis Antetokounmpo was available.
Addressing his achievements before the deal, Brown wrote on social media: “Nobody has won more combined regular-season and playoff games since I entered the league 10 years ago.”
The trade is the latest major move in a busy NBA offseason that has already seen Giannis Antetokounmpo move from Milwaukee to Miami, Kawhi Leonard and Brandon Ingram exchanged between the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers, and Ja Morant traded from Memphis to Portland.
Brown now joins a Philadelphia squad featuring Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Joel Embiid. The 76ers enter the new season with added star power after eliminating the Celtics in the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the latest chapter in the long-standing rivalry between the Eastern Conference rivals.
