Clippers star Paul George opens up about his admiration for Carmelo Anthony

Los Angeles Clippers are in fine form courtesy of their star man Paul George who has shown great signs in recent games. After a tough outing in last season’s playoffs, George has managed to put that in the past and has come out with all the positive in this season. His consecutive performances along with the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Rajon Rondo and others have helped the Clippers look like a possible contender in the Western Conference.

The 7-time All Stars best performance in this season came against the Portland Trailblazers. The 31-year old knocked down six three points and registered a mammoth 36points game which inspired the Clippers to beat the Blazers 133-116.

However, George was overwhelmed after the match as not a lot of players in the NBA get to play against or with their idols. But the 30-year-old modelled his game around Blazers’ Carmelo Anthony. PG-13 had the opportunity to share the same dressing with Melo during his time at Oklahoma City Thunder and now again he got to share the court with him.

Right after the win against the Blazers, George shared about his experiences with Carmelo Anthony. He said, “I was a big fan. I went through a bunch of stages from growing up idolizing his game, being a fan of his from afar, to matching up against him having tough playoff matchups against him, and then being a teammate of his.”

He also shared the respect that he has for Melo and how he savours the moment they were teammates at the Thunder. “I admire who he is, who he’s been to this league. He was a hell of a teammate for me my time in OKC the one year with him. We just appreciated him so much, one of the most genuine dudes, good dudes,” he added.

Lastly, George opined that Carmelo can continue playing as long as he wants, especially with the skills that he possesses. “He’s obviously got a lot of game in him, you know I think he’s set up to play for as long as he wants with his skill set.”

Melo is a very vital player for the Blazers this season, he offers a different dimension to the team coming off from the bench. He is also one of the most loved veterans of the game. If the Blazers want to finish high up the table, they will need Melo to be at the top of his game.

Similarly for Paul George as well he has to keep up his form and maintain that consistency. The Clippers are a strong unit and they are one of the Championships contenders this season especially with Leonard and now with Rondo also joining ranks.
