Draymond Green Agrees New Deal to Extend 15-Year Stay With Golden State Warriors

Draymond Green will remain with the Golden State Warriors after agreeing to a one-year, $27.7 million contract extension that keeps him with the franchise through the 2026-27 NBA season.

The new agreement mirrors the deal Green opted out of before the 2026 free agency period, a move that gave the Warriors added financial flexibility as they pursued LeBron James. However, James ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, allowing Golden State to bring back one of the cornerstones of its dynasty.

The upcoming campaign will mark Green’s 15th season with the Warriors, the only NBA franchise he has represented since being selected with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. If he appears in 51 games this season, Green will join Stephen Curry as the only players in franchise history to play at least 1,000 games for the organization.

Over the course of his career, Green has established himself as one of the league’s premier defenders. He won the Kia Defensive Player of the Year Award in the 2016-17 season and has earned nine All-Defensive Team selections along with four NBA All-Star appearances. He also played a pivotal role in helping Golden State capture four NBA championships.

Last season, Green averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from three-point range. Despite his contributions, the Warriors finished with a 37-45 record and fell short of the playoffs after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the SoFi Play-In Tournament.

Although Golden State missed out on signing James, the franchise retained much of its roster during the offseason. Charles Bassey, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Kristaps Porziņģis all signed or agreed to deals with the team, while Quinten Post departed for Memphis.

Green is expected to anchor an experienced frontcourt alongside Horford, Porziņģis and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, who enters the season after being named NBA Summer League MVP. The Warriors will once again be coached by Steve Kerr, who also committed his future to the franchise by signing a new two-year contract during the offseason.

Golden State’s disappointing 2025-26 campaign was heavily impacted by injuries. Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending knee injury in January, Stephen Curry missed 27 games with a right knee injury, and Moses Moody underwent surgery after sustaining a left knee injury in March. With Green secured for another year, the Warriors will hope for better fortune as they look to return to playoff contention.
