Borussia Mönchengladbach secure Daiki Hashioka on loan

Borussia Mönchengladbach have swiftly completed the signing of Japanese right-back Daiki Hashioka, according to multiple reports. 

The 27-year-old defender will join the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan, with the deal including an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the campaign.

Hashioka brings considerable European experience to his new side. He began his professional career with Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan before making the move to Europe in 2021, when he joined Belgian club Sint-Truiden.

Three years later, in 2024, he transferred to English side Luton Town, where he gained valuable exposure in the Premier League, featuring in ten top-flight matches.

Last summer, Hashioka moved to Czech club Slavia Prague. During the second half of the 2025/26 season, he was loaned to Belgian outfit KAA Gent, where he made 17 appearances and continued to develop his game in a competitive environment.

On the international stage, the defender has earned 12 senior caps for Japan. He received a national team call-up and played in March, although he was ultimately not selected in the squad for the World Cup.

Hashioka expressed strong enthusiasm for the opportunity with Borussia Mönchengladbach. He said that when his agent informed him of the club’s interest, he felt immediate excitement and knew right away that he wanted to take on the challenge. The player added that he was very much looking forward to competing in the Bundesliga.

This move represents a significant step in Hashioka’s career as he seeks regular playing time in one of Europe’s top leagues.

 For Borussia Mönchengladbach, the acquisition of the versatile Japanese international strengthens their defensive options and adds technical quality and experience from multiple leagues.
