Former NBA player Bryn Forbes has been taken into custody over a grave family violence charge that has shocked the Sports community. The 30-year-old athlete was arrested in Bexar County on Tuesday, facing allegations of assaulting a family member through choking or strangulation, classified as a third-degree felony.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Forbes was being held in the Bexar County Jail, with bail set at $7,500. Details regarding legal representation for Forbes were not immediately available, leaving many questions unanswered about his defense strategy.
The arrest stems from an early morning incident on Monday, as per the San Antonio police’s preliminary report. Authorities were called to the scene at 2:17 a.m. following reports of an assault involving Forbes and a 30-year-old woman, identified as “an ex-significant other.”
The victim managed to escape the altercation and sought police assistance. Forbes, however, evaded the scene before law enforcement could apprehend him, leading to his arrest later Tuesday morning.
This is not Forbes’ first encounter with the law; he was previously arrested in February 2023 on suspicion of assault with bodily injury following a physical altercation that escalated from a verbal argument with a female companion.
Forbes’ career in the NBA spanned over seven seasons, during which he played for four different teams. His journey began at Cleveland State and Michigan State, leading to his entry into the NBA as an undrafted free agent. Forbes spent the initial four seasons of his professional career with the San Antonio Spurs.
He later signed with the Milwaukee Bucks as a free agent in 2021, returned to the Spurs the following season, and was eventually traded to the Denver Nuggets.
This recent arrest puts a spotlight on Forbes’ off-court troubles, overshadowing his achievements in professional basketball. As the legal proceedings unfold, the sports world awaits further details on this developing story.
