As Antetokounmpo began making his way back up the floor, he suddenly collapsed without any contact. He remained seated, immediately signalling toward Bucks head coach Doc Rivers and requesting a timeout. With play still live, teammate Kevin Porter Jr. committed a foul to stop the action, allowing the Bucks to address the situation.
Rivers called the timeout as requested, and Antetokounmpo stayed seated on the opposite end of the court at first, attempting to gather himself. Moments later, he slowly got back to his feet and limped toward the Bucks bench under his own power, though visibly in discomfort. After briefly sitting during the timeout, the two-time NBA MVP made his way back to the locker room before play resumed.
At the time of his exit, the Bucks were trailing the Pistons 10–4, with 9:00 remaining in the opening quarter. Shortly after, the team announced via X that Antetokounmpo would not return to the game due to a right calf strain, ending his night before he had the chance to make his usual impact.
Postgame, head coach Doc Rivers spoke with reporters and offered a cautiously optimistic update. He confirmed that initial evaluations appeared to rule out a more serious Achilles injury, providing some relief given the concerning nature of noncontact collapses. Antetokounmpo underwent an MRI following the Bucks’ narrow 113–109 win, though the full extent of the injury was not immediately disclosed.
The Bucks ultimately managed to close out the contest without their franchise centerpiece, but the night’s focus remained firmly on Antetokounmpo’s status. His early exit raises questions about Milwaukee’s short-term plans, especially with the team relying heavily on his two-way presence.
