The Golden State Warriors have strengthened their long-term plans by agreeing to a rookie-scale contract extension with young guard Brandin Podziemski, reportedly worth $110 million over five years.
The agreement will keep the 23-year-old with Golden State through the 2031-32 NBA season, highlighting the franchise’s confidence in his development and future contributions.
The contract reportedly includes a mutual option for the fifth season, allowing both sides to renegotiate the final year or potentially part ways.
Steve Kerr Delighted With Podziemski’s New Deal
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr welcomed the agreement ahead of the team’s preseason matchup against the Sacramento Kings, describing the extension as a positive outcome for everyone involved.
“I’m thrilled for Brandin and his family, really happy for us,” Kerr said.
“Obviously, everything came together and it’s a win-win. We think Brandin is a hell of a young player, a big part of our future, and he secures his future financially. And it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense based on our numbers. … I think it’s a good relief to get it done and go into the season where he can just focus on basketball. He should be very proud of the work he’s put in to get to this place and put himself in this position.”
Impressive Season Earns Podziemski Major Reward
Podziemski’s extension follows an impressive campaign in which he established himself as a dependable contributor for Golden State.
The 6-foot-4 guard appeared in all 82 regular-season games, becoming the only Warriors player and one of just 18 NBA players to achieve that feat last season.
He averaged career-best figures of 13.8 points and 45.5% shooting from the field, alongside 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 28.5 minutes per game.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy also praised the youngster’s progress.
“We’re thrilled to get an extension done with Brandin prior to the deadline,” Dunleavy said.
“Brandin has continued to improve and expand his game since he entered the league as a mid-first round pick, and we think his upward trajectory will only continue. He’s a durable, skilled, two-way player that makes our team better each time he takes the court.”
Warriors Build for Present and Future
The agreement represents another important offseason move for Golden State as the franchise balances experienced leadership with emerging talent.
The Warriors previously extended Stephen Curry in September while also retaining veteran players Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porziņģis, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II.
With Podziemski now secured on a long-term deal, Golden State has reinforced its commitment to developing a younger core while maintaining an experienced roster capable of competing in the NBA.
