It didn’t matter who they put me on, whether it was Ja, Luka – Andrew Wiggins says he wanted to prove his mettle defensively

When Andrew Wiggins played for Minnesota Timberwolves, he impressed one and all with his attacking game. Subsequently, when he made a move to the Golden State Warriors and a lot of NBA experts thought about what would be his role at the Dubs since they already had the services of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

However, Wiggins was able to prove his mettle in the defense along with Draymond Green for Golden State Warriors and played a key role in the success of the team in the previous season of the NBA.

The 27-year-old Andrew Wiggins averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 73 games in 2021-22. He was selected to play in his first All-Star game and won his first NBA championship.

Andrew Wiggins said on Vince Carter’s VC show, “I can play defense, you know, so I took that seriously. It didn’t matter who they put me on, whether it was Ja (Morant), Luka (Doncic), (Jayson) Tatum … It didn’t matter. My mindset was the same.”

“Our team is talented, you know. Everyone’s going to get a lot of touches. Obviously, we got Steph. … We got a lot of stuff going on offensively, but defensively is somewhere where I thought I could put my stamp on.”

Wiggins played a key role in NBA Finals against Boston Celtics, which GSW won by 4-2 he was nearly averaging a double-double with 9.4 rebounds to go along with his 18.4 points in the first five games.

Throughout the 2022 NBA playoffs as a whole, he was averaging 7.6 rebounds in 21 games. The GSW’s head coach Steve Kerr was also impressed by Andrew Wiggins’ defensive numbers, which he produced for the team.
