The New York Knicks stormed into the NBA Finals for the first time in 25 years after crushing the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 on Monday night to complete a dominant four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference finals.
Led by a balanced team performance, the Knicks overwhelmed Cleveland from the second quarter onward and never looked back. Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while OG Anunoby added 17 points. Bench guard Landry Shamet contributed 16 points, including crucial three-pointers during New York’s decisive first-half run.
Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson chipped in with 15 points each as the Knicks extended their postseason winning streak to 11 games, becoming only the fourth team in NBA history to achieve such a run during a playoff campaign.
The game began competitively, with Donovan Mitchell scoring Cleveland’s first eight points to help the Cavaliers take an early 8-2 lead. However, the momentum shifted quickly after Evan Mobley briefly restored Cleveland’s advantage at 17-14 midway through the opening quarter.
New York responded with relentless intensity, launching a 20-0 scoring run that completely changed the contest. Cleveland went cold offensively during that stretch, missing nine consecutive field-goal attempts and committing four turnovers. The Knicks capitalised with sharp ball movement and efficient perimeter shooting, while Shamet continued his remarkable form from long range.
By halftime, New York had built a commanding 68-49 lead, with Towns already recording a double-double. The Knicks maintained complete control in the second half and eventually stretched their advantage to 45 points in the fourth quarter before emptying the bench with nearly eight minutes remaining.
The victory sparked celebrations among travelling Knicks supporters, who loudly chanted “Knicks in four” as celebrity fans including Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner watched courtside.
Under first-year coach Mike Brown, the Knicks have now reached the Finals for the third time since their last championship in 1973. Brown, who previously guided Cleveland to the Finals in 2007, has quickly transformed New York into a title contender after replacing Tom Thibodeau last offseason.
The Knicks will now face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals beginning June 3.
