The Los Angeles Lakers completed a dramatic comeback to defeat the Miami Heat 93-91 in sudden-death overtime during the 2026 California Classic Summer League at Chase Center on Sunday.
After trailing by double digits for much of the contest, the Lakers produced a strong fourth-quarter rally before Anton Watson secured the win with the decisive basket on the opening possession of sudden death.
Cameron Carr led the Lakers with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Watson recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, including the game-winning putback after collecting an offensive rebound. First-round pick Carr, out of Baylor, played a key role in keeping Los Angeles within striking distance throughout the contest.
Miami made the brighter start, taking a 26-17 lead after the opening quarter and maintaining control through most of the game. The Heat held a double-digit advantage for large stretches of the second and third periods and entered the final 10 minutes with a comfortable 74-64 lead.
The Lakers mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Miami 23-13. Chris Mañon delivered a crucial layup in the closing minute to level the scores and force overtime.
Los Angeles showed similar resilience in the extra period. Adou Thiero converted a layup with 28 seconds remaining to tie the game once again, sending the contest into sudden death after neither side could break the deadlock.
The Lakers controlled the first possession of sudden death, and although Carr missed a 13-foot jumper, Watson reacted quickest to grab the offensive rebound and score the winning basket.
Thiero contributed across the board with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Mañon added 12 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench.
For Miami, Ryan Conwell and Trevor Keels shared team-high scoring honours with 16 points each while also registering three assists apiece. Conwell also collected seven rebounds in an all-round display.
Vladislav Goldin finished with six points, six rebounds and four blocks despite committing nine fouls during the contest. Tre Donaldson and Tre White each chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
The Lakers will return to action against the Spurs on Monday at 7:30 ET, while the Heat are set to face Golden State Warriors Gold at 10 ET. Both California Classic Summer League fixtures will be played at Chase Center.
