Cleveland Cavaliers forward Max Strus made his long-awaited return to action on Sunday, marking his season debut after missing the first 67 games due to a broken left foot. The 6-foot-5 forward had been sidelined since the offseason following surgery to repair a Jones fracture, a break in the bone connecting the little toe to the base of the foot.

Strus suffered the injury during offseason training and underwent surgery on August 26, beginning a lengthy rehabilitation process that kept him out for much of the campaign. Initially, the expectation was that he would be able to resume basketball activities within three to four months, but his recovery required additional time before he was cleared to return.

His comeback finally arrived in Cleveland’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. Strus checked into the contest with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter, receiving a warm reception as he stepped back onto the court after months of recovery and training.

The forward wasted little time making an impact. Within his first 75 seconds of action, Strus knocked down two three-pointers from the left wing, immediately providing a spark for the Cavaliers and reminding fans of his shooting ability.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson had indicated before the game that the team planned to ease Strus back into action. The coach expected the forward to play between 20 and 24 minutes as the team carefully managed his return after the extended absence.

Atkinson also spoke about the emotional significance of the moment for both the player and the team. He praised Strus for the effort required to overcome the injury and highlighted the positive effect his return could have on the squad.

“I think it’s an emotional day when you witness someone go through what he has during the offseason and then struggling to get back. It’s emotional, but it’s also exciting,” Atkinson said. “And then just to get an injection of energy and the competitor he is back in the locker room. It’s good timing and will be a boost for the team, not just today but going forward.”

Strus played an important role for Cleveland last season, averaging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 50 games, including 37 starts. Known for his perimeter shooting and versatility, he became a valuable contributor in the Cavaliers’ rotation.

With his return now complete, Cleveland will hope Strus can gradually regain full rhythm and strengthen the team’s lineup as the season progresses.
