The excitement surrounding New York’s return to the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades has sent ticket prices soaring, with fans paying record-breaking amounts to secure a seat at Madison Square Garden.
According to ticket tracking service TicketData, the entry price for Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York has climbed back above USD 4,000 on the secondary market after briefly cooling down in the days following the Knicks’ Finals qualification. Demand has intensified once again, with prices rising by 20 percent over the past three days amid an extremely limited ticket supply.
As of Monday night, the lowest-priced ticket available for Game 3 on June 10 was listed at USD 3,789. Even more striking is the demand for a potential Game 6 at Madison Square Garden on June 16, where the cheapest ticket available was valued at USD 5,322, making it the most expensive game of the series so far.
The surge reflects the significance of the occasion for Knicks fans, who have waited 27 years to see their team return to the NBA’s biggest stage. The combination of championship anticipation, limited availability and the unique atmosphere of Madison Square Garden has created one of the hottest ticket markets in recent sports history.
In contrast, ticket prices for the Finals games in San Antonio have moved sharply in the opposite direction. Since the Spurs secured their place in the championship series by defeating Oklahoma City in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, prices have fallen significantly. TicketData reported that entry-level prices for Game 1 dropped by 62 percent over the past three days, while Game 2 tickets declined by 49 percent.
One factor influencing the market is travel costs. TicketData believes fewer Knicks supporters are expected to travel to Texas than originally anticipated because of expensive flights from New York-area airports to San Antonio. However, if the series extends to a decisive Game 7, demand could rise again. The cheapest ticket for a potential winner-take-all contest in San Antonio is currently priced at USD 3,863.
The prices being seen in New York are remarkable even when compared with the biggest events in American sports. If current rates hold, Knicks Finals tickets would exceed the entry prices for each of the last two Super Bowls, which recorded get-in prices of USD 3,251 in 2025 and USD 2,002 in 2026. The average Super Bowl entry price since the end of the pandemic stands at USD 3,914.
TicketData also noted that the Knicks’ efforts to prioritize genuine fans over professional resellers among season-ticket holders have contributed to the limited secondary-market inventory. Added interest in the Finals matchup, particularly with rising Spurs star Victor Wembanyama involved, has further fueled demand for what is shaping up to be one of the most sought-after championship series in recent memory.
