The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their blistering start to the 2025 NBA season, cruising past the winless New Orleans Pelicans 137-106 to move to 7-0. The victory not only preserved their perfect record but also placed them in elite company, making Oklahoma City just the third team in NBA history to begin consecutive seasons with seven straight wins.
Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again led the charge with a composed 30-point performance, adding seven assists to his tally. Despite the absence of key starters Chet Holmgren and Luguentz Dort, the Thunder’s depth proved decisive — eight players finished in double figures as the team showcased its offensive balance and unrelenting pace.
“It feels like we’re a better team,” said Gilgeous-Alexander, who is averaging 33.6 points per game this season. “Obviously, we’re dealing with some injuries to start the year, but because we’ve gotten better one through 15 like the guys in the locker room, we’re able to plug and play and figure it out on the fly and still have good results.”
While Oklahoma City celebrated, the Pelicans’ struggles deepened. Zion Williamson fought hard with 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, but New Orleans’ losing streak stretched to six games. Their defense faltered under the Thunder’s relentless ball movement and three-point shooting.
Elsewhere, the San Antonio Spurs’ unbeaten run came to an abrupt end as they fell 130-118 to the Phoenix Suns. Rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama endured one of his toughest nights yet, managing just nine points on 4-of-14 shooting — only the fifth time in his career that he has failed to reach double digits. His quiet outing stood in stark contrast to his early-season dominance, where he averaged 30.2 points and 14.6 rebounds through five games.
For Phoenix, it was a statement win driven by Devin Booker’s all-around brilliance. The guard finished with 28 points and 13 assists, leading the Suns to their second straight victory after enduring a rough four-game skid.
In New York, the Knicks snapped a three-game losing streak with an impressive 128-116 win over the Chicago Bulls. Jalen Brunson powered the offense with 31 points, while OG Anunoby chipped in 21 and Karl-Anthony Towns notched a commanding double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Chicago’s Josh Giddey delivered a standout individual performance, recording his first triple-double of the season with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. However, his efforts couldn’t prevent the Bulls from suffering their first defeat after opening the season 5-0.
As the first few weeks of the NBA season unfold, the Thunder’s consistency, the Spurs’ learning curve, and the Knicks’ resilience are already shaping early storylines — and setting the stage for another thrilling campaign.
