Warriors in Advanced Talks to Land Al Horford, Eye Deeper Playoff Push

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign veteran forward-center Al Horford, a move that could significantly reshape their lineup and elevate their championship aspirations.

NBA analyst Marc Stein, speaking on The Willard & Dibs Show, stated, “My expectation is that one way or the other, the Golden State Warriors are going to end up with both Horford and Melton on their roster.”

At 38, Horford continues to be a valuable asset on both ends of the floor. Known for his defensive IQ, leadership, and court spacing, the five-time All-Star could offer the Warriors exactly what they need: a stabilizing force in the paint and a dependable shooter who complements their perimeter-heavy offense.

Horford’s career three-point shooting mark of 36.4% highlights his floor-stretching ability — and despite a dip in accuracy last season, he shot over 40% from deep in the two seasons prior.

With Stephen Curry consistently commanding multiple defenders, Horford could thrive in a catch-and-shoot role, getting cleaner looks than he did in Boston. More importantly, his presence would ease the physical demands on Draymond Green, allowing the Warriors to better manage minutes and extend the health and effectiveness of their core.

If the deal is completed, Horford is expected to slot in as the starting center, a role that fits the Warriors’ evolving strategy to stay competitive in a deepening Western Conference. Alongside Horford, Golden State is also aggressively pursuing versatile guard De’Anthony Melton, who would bolster their perimeter defense and bring much-needed flexibility off the bench.

These moves are part of a broader plan to retool a roster that struggled with consistency last season. Though no agreements have been finalized yet, the urgency within the organization is clear. As rival teams in the West continue to load up, the Warriors appear intent on staying in the playoff mix and possibly contending for another title.

The front office is also reportedly monitoring the availability of star guard Bradley Beal, a potential blockbuster addition that would signal an all-in push for a final run with the Curry-led core.

While the deals are still in the works, the heavy speculation surrounding Horford’s possible arrival reflects the Warriors’ intent to act swiftly. With time ticking in the offseason, the franchise knows that acquiring proven talent like Horford could be the key to remaining a force in the West come April.
