Chandler replies as McGregor makes condition for return

After months of speculation and uncertainty, it seems that Conor McGregor is ready to have his comeback fight, but that is only if his condition is met. The Irish fighter took to X (Twitter) on Wednesday to say that he would only fight again if his next fight is in a stadium: “I’ll only come back to a stadium.”

The former two-division champion has not fought in four years after announcing his retirement back in 2021. He was billed to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 last June but pulled out of the fight due to a toe injury. Since then, fans have wondered if McGregor was ever going to return to the sport and, if so, what it would take. Now, according to him, the fight has to take place in a stadium for him to get interested.

But McGregor did not just stop there; he also called out Chandler, saying that they had “unfinished business,” alluding to their fight that was supposed to happen last year. Chandler did not skip a beat as he replied with a tweet of his own, “unfinished business loading….”

He then followed that with posts on another platform, showing how eager to set up a fight with McGregor: “Dust off the old contract and add some new ink… I’m ready tomorrow.” Another post said, “YOUR WORD IS YOUR BOND, IF YOUR WORD IS NO GOOD, THEN EVENTUALLY YOU ARE NO GOOD”

At the time of writing this, McGregor has yet to reply to Chandler’s posts. This may just be one of his regular posts with no intentions to back it up. Chandler has always shown that he is ready to take on McGregor at a moment’s notice, so the only element that has prevented their fixture from happening is McGregor, and he knows it.

Maybe after being away for so long, McGregor is not exactly confident of his return or isn’t just interested in the sport again as much as he once was. He could also mean it this time around, and we could have details of the fight ready in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen. But there is no doubt that seeing McGregor fight one last time is something both fans and critics would be looking forward to.
