Tyson Fury has hinted that a major announcement involving Dana White is on the way, fueling the flames ahead of his upcoming fixture with Anthony Joshua later this year.
Fury made the comments while attending UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, his first trip to the United States in more than five years.
Speaking during the event, the former heavyweight champion revealed that White would soon be making what he described as a “massive, massive announcement” but stopped short of providing any details.
Fury also went ahead to confirm that White could be a key part of the Fury vs. Joshua promotion, dismissing Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn, who had both denied that White would be involved in the promotion.
In his turn, White said that he was looking forward to the heavyweight showdown, while wondering why it had not happened sooner.
When asked directly about Fury’s future after the event, White suggested an announcement would be coming soon, further fueling talk that the British heavyweight could be set to join Zuffa Boxing in some capacity.
The timing of the “hint” is notable given Fury’s expected bout with Anthony Joshua. Contracts for the all-British heavyweight fight have reportedly been signed, with the bout targeted for later this year.
One possibility is that White’s announcement relates to Fury officially signing with Zuffa Boxing.
Another is that White could play a role in the promotion of the Joshua fight. For now, neither Fury nor White has confirmed exactly what is being planned.
Until White makes the announcement, nothing can be ascertained. What seems likely is that Fury wanted attention focused on what comes next rather than what has already happened.
It’s expected that in the coming weeks, more details about the fight, including the date and venue, would be announced. This is alongside the reveal of the “massive” update expected from White.
