The highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, originally scheduled for November 14, has been cancelled.
The event was set to be streamed on Netflix and was promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. However, the cancellation came just ten days before the fight due to serious legal issues surrounding Davis.
The primary reason for the fight’s cancellation involves a civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis by his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel.
She has accused Davis of multiple charges, including battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred last month at the workplace of Rossel, a Miami club. Rossel claims that Davis assaulted her at the club and has a history of violence against her from previous occasions, which has caused her post-traumatic stress.
According to court documents, this lawsuit arrived just two months after another domestic violence case against Davis was dismissed.
After the filing of these serious accusations, MVP conducted an inquiry and decided to cancel the fight.
Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of MVP, explained that even though the event was cancelled, plans were currently underway for Paul to headline an event this year: “While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025.
Details regarding a new date, location, Jake’s opponent, and additional bouts will be shared as soon as they are finalised.”
Jake Paul publicly responded to the cancellation on X with frustration about dealing with Davis: “Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage. Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests and related accusations and lawsuits.”
This development closes a chapter on one of the year’s most talked-about boxing events, with both fighters needing to regroup and plan their future careers following the cancellation. The boxing community and fans now await further announcements from MVP about Jake Paul’s next fight.
